DETOX DIET RECIPE COOKING TIPS -Vegetables are important to the detoxification process. By focusing your diet around vegetables you will create long term health. -The fresher the vegetable the better. Cooking can destroy many health promoting vitamins and minerals; it is important not to overcook vegetables. -Steam vegetables lightly keeping them on the crunchy side. They will help to alkalize your blood, important for detox. -Eat vegetables in salads. You can steam, roast or water saute them. Eat a variety of vegetables and use less starchy selections such as green beans, leafy greens and zucchini. STEAMING Steaming is the best way to prepare vegetables for your detox diet recipes. It's preferable to use a pot where the water sits below and the veggies above in a separate strainer. Root vegetables (squash, carrots, beets) take longer to steam so start those first. After 5-10 mins add green beans, broccoli, ect..steam another 5 minutes turn off heat and add any leafy greens. A dash of fresh olive oil, sea salt, braggs aminos or other seasons can be added. Olive oil helps break down the vegetable cellular walls, helping your body assimilate their nutrients more efficiently. Necessary support while following a detox program. WATER SAUTE Use a hot skillet or wok. Cook with coconut oil because olive oil at high heat becomes carcinogenic. Another important detox diet recipe tip! As per the steaming instructions always start with the vegetables which take longest to cook adding lighter varieties as you go. As they cook add a bit of water to keep them moist or you may use vegetable stock for flavor. When you turn the heat off add the leafy greens to cook the last few minutes as the heat coming from the pan is enough to soften them. ROASTING Preheat oven to 325-350. Cut vegetables into bite size pieces or strips. Place them all in a container and add 2 TBS of olive oil to coat. Sprinkle sea salt and your choice of seasoning/herbs. Place the pieces on a pan for 20 minutes or until golden. Flip veggies and cook another 5-10 minutes. Add other seasoning if you so desire.
