Skin Parasites

Skin parasites are very common because they are contagious and easy spread.

Parasites burrow under the skin or often times stay on the exterior causing itchiness and irritations.

Most commonly:

  • Fleas, Ticks, Chiggers
  • Lice
  • Scabies

Fleas ,Ticks And Chiggers

Fleas, Ticks and Chiggers may be firmly attach to the skin and can cause infection.

Aspirin can relieve itching or pain cased by these irritating skin parasites.

Sulfur powder will prevent bites. Dust yourself with sulfur powder before going into fields or a forest. Especially ankles and wrists/arms.

Remove Fleas, Ticks And Chiggers:

  1. Hold a lit cigarette near it.
  2. Put some alcohol on it.
  3. 1 drop of cinnamon or peppermint oil on a cotton swab and place on tick. Wait for it to release the head before removing. (useful for animals too)

Lice

Head lice and body lice create itchiness. That can cause skin infections and swollen lymph nodes.

Avoid lice with personal cleanliness. Bathe and wash hair often.

Do not let your child go to school with lice. Lice is a parasite that is highly contagious.

Remove Lice:

  1. To rid lice eggs (nits), soak hair with hot vinegar water for a half hour, then comb through with a fine toothed comb.
  2. Lindane (Gamma benzene hexachloride) - make a shampoo of lindane, water and soap.1 part lindane - 10 parts water. Wash hair and do not get lindane in the eyes. Leave lather for 15 minutes, then rinse well and repeat in 7 days.
  3. CAUTION Lindane is very strong and can be poisonous if over used, do not apply more than once a week and bathe well afterward.

    Scabies

Scabies are skin parasites which make tunnels under the skin. They are spread by touching infected skin, clothes and bedding.

These parasites are common in children causing very itchy bumps that can cover the entire body.

    Itchy bumps appear mainly:

    • between the fingers
    • writs
    • around the waist
    • on the genitals

NOTE: small itchy soars on the penis and scrotum of young males are usually scabies.

If one person in the family has scabies, everyone needs to be treated.

    Remove Scabies:

    1. Wash all clothes and bedding hanging them in the sun
    2. Make an ointment of lindane and vaseline (or body oil), 1 part lindane and 15 parts vaseline.

    • DIRECTIONS: Wash vigorosuly (entire body) with soap and hot water
    • Heat the Vaseline and lindane, stir well
    • Smearing on the mixture, everywhere except the face.
    • Leave it on 1 day and then bathe well.
    • Use clean bedding and clothing, repeating treatment in one week. Washing clothes and bedding daily.
    • Cleanliness is the easiest way to avoid skin parasites and other types of parasite infections.

Avoid sending your kids to school with infections and hope others are doing the same!
